Atmospheric Pressure

Atmospheric Pressure

What is it?

Atmospheric pressure is the
pressure at any point above the earth which is caused by the weight of the all the gasses in the atmosphere above that point. Average atmospheric pressure at sea level is rated at 14.7 pounds/square inch. The higher you go in the atmosphere, the lower atmospheric pressure becomes.

Give me an example!

When the weather forecaster on TV says that a high pressure system is on its way, it means that the air coming in is heavier than the air that is already here. Heavier air makes for higher atmospheric pressure.
